This was the biggest achievement and proud moment ever! The be accepted as a registered breeder at an international breeders registry! Judith Bos (now Duinkerken) from The Netherlands has opened a whole new world and outlook to me regarding breeding and things that can be done. Ever so grateful for her and what The Hedgehog Program has brought to South Africa.

To be a the Executive Member and being part of SAHBA is a honor and a dream came true. I joined the IHA in 2018 (International Hedgehogs Association), but before anything could have come from that, they closed down.Ever since it was a dream that one day South Africa will have also a hedgehog breeders association, where we can compete for breeder of the year and perhaps one day have hedgehog expo`s and championship shows. This membership are part of that crazy dream.

This was the very first Awards held by SAHBA, and still a bit informal as it is a new registry and skilled judges were few and far. One step closer to that crazy dream! This award was judged on public voting opinion. But it is still achievement, and we take it! Grateful and honored to be the voters first choice. Princess Ash, the daughter of Sassy.

This course was a real eye opener when it comes to breeding. This course enabled me to change my breeding techniques towards better planning based on a more scientific way. This was also marked as a game changer for me. Course presented by Judith Duinkerken from The Hedgehog Program.

Winning this was huge! This time round there were a panel of two trained / skilled judges, Cherice Stevenson from South Africa and Judith Duinkerken from The Netherlands. It was a big achievement, as this was the proof that the knowledge gained from the Genetics course are now showing. We are looking forward for the 2024 Awards, hoping to land ourselves again a spot somewhere. Competition will be real tough as there are now more registered breeders, and plenty of beautiful hogs to compete against! Hoglet here Sir Valentino, son of Pippa

The Hedgehog Dome course, presented by The Hedgehog Program focus on building natural hides for wild / indigenous hedgehogs in suburban areas. The domes provide safe shelter during winter times, heavy rains and the perfect place for a female to safely raise a litter of babies. By creating these domes, it will help prevent wild hedgehogs to venture into residential gardens and falls prey to dogs and the pet industry.
