How It All Began
I started off in 2016, getting my first hedgehog, and was hooked. It went quickly to more hedgehogs with different colours. The more I did research, the more I was fascinated. I started to breed in 2018, following breeders standards from the former IHA (International Hedgehog Breeders Association). Initially I was just a private breeder, tinkering with the name of Sugar and Spikes, as I had sugar gliders also at the point. But that never take flight. In 2019 I had to create a WhatsApp Group to deal with clients and strangers who required advice. The WhatsApp group became such a loving hedgehog community that I changed the name to Awesome Krimpvarkies as for the awesome animals and their wonderful owners. In 2020 I became the first breeder from South Africa to be accepted at The Hedgehog Program - The Netherlands. In 2021 I founded the South Africa`s Breeders Association (SAHBA). I did a Hedgehog Genetics course through The Hedgehog Program and are also an active blog writer for them. The most Awesome thing of this journey will of course always be the main stars, my hedgehogs!
